American Steel for American Containers

Adding U.S. Steel verdeX® weathering steel to the domestic container supply chain.

American containers need American steel. We are closing that gap.

CakeBoxx Technologies is expanding the domestic supply chain for ISO containers, steel, corner castings and specialized Hard Tech. It is the practical side of the case our founder and CEO Daine Eisold made in Hard Tech in a Boxx: that the physical layer of the container supply chain deserves the same attention as the systems it carries.

Corner castings came first

Last month, we announced the release of 100% Made in America ISO 1161 corner castings to the U.S. market. Corner castings are the standardized fittings used to lift, stack, secure and handle containers throughout the intermodal system, and there are at least eight on every container built.

Today we are adding the steel.

Introducing verdeX® weathering steel

CakeBoxx is now offering U.S. Steel verdeX® weathering steel for container manufacturing and industrial applications:

  • Corrugated side, end and roof panels for standard ISO containers
  • Structural tubes
  • Plate for component and parts manufacturing
  • Weathering steel capability including ASTM A606 and A588 applications

Weathering steel is the standard material for container construction. It forms a stable oxide layer that slows further corrosion of the steel beneath it, which is why it is specified for structures that spend their working lives outdoors.

Produced at Big River Steel

verdeX® is produced through U.S. Steel’s Big River Steel operations in Osceola, Arkansas, the first mill in North America to earn ResponsibleSteel™ certification. U.S. Steel reports up to 90% recycled content and up to 75% lower production CO₂ emissions than traditional blast furnace steelmaking, and that verdeX® is endlessly recyclable without degradation. It is melted and rolled at ISO 14001:2015 certified facilities.

For customers with sustainability reporting obligations, that means lower embodied carbon in the steel, with independent mill certification behind it.

Who this is for

For defense contractors, energy companies, OEMs, ports, fleet operators and industrial fabricators, this creates another choice: source critical container steel in America rather than depending on an overseas supply chain.

We are not just building containers. We are rebuilding the American container supply chain.
