Friends, with great sadness, I share the passing of CakeBoxx Technologies’ founding Chief Operating Officer, Captain Louis ‘Deak’ Childress. Deak recently passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home in Lynchburg, Virginia. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time.

Deak joined the fledgling CakeBoxx Technologies Team in 2012, serving as our first COO until 2018. He was instrumental in developing our innovative two-piece CakeBoxx containers and introducing them to the global trade industry. His energy, creativeness, enthusiasm, dedication, and loyalty were the foundation of our company’s ethos and our ability to survive the challenges of growth. Deak has been a cherished and inspirational ‘plank owner’ of CakeBoxx, to whom we all owe a great debt of gratitude.

He was far more than a business partner to me. Deak was my Brother in Arms, and my best friend. Before his time at CakeBoxx, Deak was a Navy Fighter Pilot – a tailhooker, a bonafide, certified ‘Top Gun’ trained in F-4 Phantoms and F/A 18 Hornets. Deak was a BIG man in all respects. He had a powerful physical presence, an inquisitive mind, and a heart of gold.

Forever a part of CakeBoxx DNA, Deak will not be forgotten. In his honor, I’ve introduced the ‘Captain Deak Childress Top Gun Award’ to recognize CakeBoxx team members who meet the measure of Deak’s legacy.

Fair winds, following seas, and a clear horizon, Shipmate!
